Author: Lucia Waterson
I write poems (exclusively in Italian). What I love in working with colours is that it's a direct language with no barriers. And I like how it brings me into my dreamworld.
I'm fond in particular of nature, because in its beauty there is love and hope.
I started a new series of artworks Weird but True, because many times nature can be quite bizarre! And the first one, Nature's palette, is already uploaded, you can see it in my website https://lucia-waterson.pixels.com/
I also started a new series of artworks, in which I select news from all over the world and I recount them to you through my eyes and my (he)art. We can take this ongoing journey together if you keep visiting. The first artwork is already uploaded, it's called Touching the sky.
Thank you very much! Lucia Waterson
Young ones can walk faster but the older ones know the way!
This is a beautiful, African proverb! And I wanted to mention it, because even though sight might diminish as we age, the precious value of the experience and the knowledge of wise, elderly persons is not lost, and actually it is always needed. Infact, wether they can see properly or not, they can often “see”… Continue reading Young ones can walk faster but the older ones know the way!
The perception of color and age
Can age affects the way we perceive a color, maybe even our favourite color? Yes, I’m afraid, it does. Infact, by time our retina looses its sensitivity to the light and this makes it harder to see certain colors and objects in half-light as clear as before. The yellowing of the lens, the cataract, the… Continue reading The perception of color and age

The Perception of Color
The perception of color happens in our brain. For the vision at daylight, over our retina we have 3 different photoreceptors, which are often called red cones, blue cones and green cones. They all send signals and the brain interprets them. Thanks to the different intensity of those 3 colors every color can be perceived.… Continue reading The Perception of Color
The Psychology of colour in times of COVID: Yellow
We have gone through unique times, passing from an hectic life to being very isolated and slow moving days. So how did all this affect our choices regarding colors? Karen Haller, a color psychologist, explained that previously, being always outside, we were constantly stimulated by thousands of inputs and when returning to our homes we… Continue reading The Psychology of colour in times of COVID: Yellow
The psychology of colour: Orange
Orange is the colour of the extrovert and of the self confident. It is more gentle than red, but it still attracts the attention. It is energising and it inspires vitality and enthusiasm. In some cultures it’s associated with entertainment and amusement. In nature the orange colour comes from carotens, photosynthetic pigments that absorb the… Continue reading The psychology of colour: Orange
The Psychology of “the queen of all colours”
This is how Pierre-Auguste Renoir expressed himself regarding black colour. (Eva Heller, Psychologie de la couleur – effets et symboliques, p. 107.) We already mentioned that technically speaking black is not truly even a colour, and yet it is so dominant and exceptionally complex that this post will be all about it. In the psychology of… Continue reading The Psychology of “the queen of all colours”
The Psychology of colour: Red or Blue?
Colours are powerful, they deeply affect us and our psyche, our emotions and behaviours. Sometimes in a different way, because we are influenced by our culture, but often it’s an universal impact, because they affect our brain. Infact, a part of it controls how we feel and behave, and it can change also according to… Continue reading The Psychology of colour: Red or Blue?
The world is in colour!
Let’s take for example our sky: it appears blue to us, until after only about 20 km up, where it progressively starts becoming darker, violet and then black in space. Think of the beauty of a sunset, which leaves us speechless with its stunning colours. We might see the sky becoming pink, although a pink… Continue reading The world is in colour!
