We have gone through unique times, passing from an hectic life to being very isolated and slow moving days. So how did all this affect our choices regarding colors?
Karen Haller, a color psychologist, explained that previously, being always outside, we were constantly stimulated by thousands of inputs and when returning to our homes we liked low saturated colors “to turn the noise down”.
Some people still need to be surrounded by the quiet, soft shades, but others prefer to make drastic changes and opt for brighter colors. In fact, missing the outside stimulation, many want more energetic and emotional colors such as oranges, turquoise, reds and yellows.
Yellow is a bright and evocative color. It is the color of the sun, and if you live in an area that lacks sun in the winter you can “create the illusion of sunshine by using warm tones—especially subtle golden yellows. It lifts the spirits and tricks you into believing the sun is shining!” (Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone, ‘More questions about color’, 6/6/22.)
Yellow is the color of summer, of holidays and of happiness. And ‘it is the color that represents the future: an expectation of something or a greater happiness.’ (Guida psicologi, 14/10/2019)

But are we seeing the same colors? This will be the theme of my next post: The Perception of Color.
Thanks a lot!
