The connection of Seashells with art, teeth and crypto

Shells have always been a popular choice for collections. And an intriguing subject for many artists, fascinated by their unique beauty, with their different colors and shapes. Starting with a very ancient painting, the famous fresco found in Pompei, Venus in Shell, the list is long, including Leonardo da Vinci, Sandro Botticelli, Rembrandt and many others.
In literature, seashells have been poetically described as Gifts from the sea, The medals of creation and Fruit of the ocean.
And in the society their use has not been limited to collections for allure.
People used to brush their teeth with crushed Seashells.
Seashells were also money before coin, infact the first worldwide currency was a cowrie seashell in the genus Cypraea. The name shares the same Greek root as cryptocurrency: Kriptos, meaning secret or hidden.
And in China the classic Chinese words related to money, prooperty or wealth originated as a stylized drawing of a cowrie shell.

I love shells and I included them in few of my works, including my latest upload, THE SHELL CAPITAL OF THE WORLD, a contemporary artwork where I featured a dreamy beach in Florida, the Sanibel Island.

I write poems (exclusively in Italian). What I love in working with colours is that it's a direct language with no barriers. And I like how it brings me into my dreamworld.
I'm fond in particular of nature, because in its beauty there is love and hope.

I started a new series of artworks Weird but True, because many times nature can be quite bizarre! And the first one, Nature's palette, is already uploaded, you can see it in my website https://lucia-waterson.pixels.com/

I also started a new series of artworks, in which I select news from all over the world and I recount them to you through my eyes and my (he)art. We can take this ongoing journey together if you keep visiting. The first artwork is already uploaded, it's called Touching the sky.

Thank you very much! Lucia Waterson
