Life Changes
After taking a short sabbatical last year I made several posts commemorating the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and then proceeded to continue posting for a couple of weeks.
After a few new posts life provided a ton of stressful changes and posting blog entries were postponed for months.
The last blog post in 2025 was about Cathedral Caverns, a natural wonder in Alabama that I had visited with a friend and neighbor. That neighbor and I, whose name is also Kathy and also spelled with a K, had originally planned a weekend beach trip but a day trip was taken instead since she was not physically up to an entire weekend of activity. It was only a few days after our trip that Kathy became very ill. She was treated aggressively for her illness and suffered greatly from those useless treatments.
I moved hundreds of miles away several months after that September 2025 blog post.
I settled into a rental that was walking distance to the beach. The city I moved to is the beach city that Kathy and I were going to visit when we originally planned to take a weekend girl’s trip. I lived in that city before I moved to Alabama where I met Kathy and where she lived. She and another neighbor from Alabama had even driven to that city several years ago to attend one of my birthday parties.
Several times when I was enjoying the view of the water and the softness of the sand under my feet I called Kathy and told her I was looking forward to her coming to visit when she got better. She was always optimistic and told me she couldn’t wait to join me.
Kathy passed away a few days after my last beach walk phone call to her.
Don’t we all make plans for the future? Plans for tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year. We are told from an early age that we must plan for the future.
The future, however, can wreck many of our plans. People get ill. People move. People die.
Taking that day trip to Cathedral Caverns was a blessing. Kathy and I were able to spend an entire day together sharing our awe at one of God’s wonders here on earth. Neither of us could envision that the trip would be Kathy’s last outing and our last time together spent enjoying nature.
I am envisioning Kathy in awe of God’s wonders in the spiritual world, free of her pain and suffering and able to enjoy that life beyond any of our imaginations.
Each of us experiences life’s changes although not all the changes will be the same for each of us or at the same time. Some changes will bring about the most heartfelt blessings and some changes will bring about sadness and grieve. That’s life. Some good, some bad and some, well, some of life is just that…change.
If you will, please share in the blog post’s comment section any changes in your own life that you are experiencing right now, or any changes that have had a profound affect on you.
As always your visit here and a visit to my art site is always appreciated!
