Southern Live Oaks Change It Up

Change has been the subject of my last several blogs. This post will focus in on the long lived Southern Live Oak tree.

I have been blessed to live among gorgeous Southern Live Oaks for a second time in my life. My temporary rental on the Mississippi Gulf Coast is a little less than a half a mile from the beach. There are two different routes that will take me from the rental to the sandy shore.

Both routes surround me with many old growth Live Oak trees.

A shady walk is provided when taking a city street to the beach as both sides of the street are bordered by Live Oaks producing a canopy of limbs overhead. A walk along a driveway through a church’s back property provides both sunny sections bordered by meadows and shady sections provided by those giant Live Oaks.

Autumn brings colorful leaves falling from deciduous trees as the weather gets cooler. Red, yellow and orange leaves are produced depending on the variety of tree and the preceding summer’s weather patterns.

Most varieties of Oak trees are deciduous and lose their leaves in the fall as expected.

However, the Southern Live Oak tree will change that up and lose their leaves in the early spring and those falling leaves are always brown! Not only that but they are considered evergreen trees because there are leaves on the tree year round.

These trees have been called majestic, gorgeous, beautiful and stately even though they live differently than other oak varieties.

Hopefully we can remember that changing it up sometimes is a great way to live!

As you think about changes that you have experienced in your own life please share in the comment section the times when change brought about positive ways to help you navigate life.
