Look Up

This week’s challenge image was a photograph taken in the lobby of an upscale hotel. The photo showcased the inside of the buildings dome. To accentuate the top of the dome the ceiling was painted a rich red color.  Oval windows positioned directly under the ceiling allowed daylight to flood that upper portion of the lobby’s architecture.

I wonder how many guests and visitors missed that red ceiling.

How often do we actually look up at a hotel’s ceiling when we are checking in?

How often do we look up at any building’s ceiling?

When checking into a hotel we are sometimes so busy taking care of business, getting our room number, possibly a key or digital code, that we might miss any possible architectural features of the lobby.

Many government buildings in the United States feature stunning features including detailed ceilings, Greek columns and possibly enormous gargoyles on the building’s exterior.  Looking up to survey the ceiling is probably the last thing on your mind as you are paying your taxes, utility bill or buying that registration for your car or truck.

But isn’t looking up to view stunning architecture similar to stopping and smelling the roses?

We live in a busy world full of problems and disasters. Sometimes it’s uplifting to stop and smell those roses.  It can also be a feast for the mind as well as the eyes to look up and admire incredible architecture or an amazing cloud formation.

This week’s challenge is for all of us.  The challenge is to look up more often, both physically and spiritually.

You might be surprised at what you see when physically looking up and how looking up spiritually can give you a sense of calm amidst the storm and its aftermath.

I’ve been there.

I looked up.

The hotel ceiling was awe inspiring.

The storm and its aftermath were survivable.

Please share in the common section when it was a blessing for you to Look Up!
