A quick browse thru my artist website will reveal to you that I have an obsession with digital abstract art. I love to look at it and especially to create it.

There is such a freedom in just letting the work lead you. When you start out just playing around with color, shapes, brushes and effects and then when you reach that moment when an artwork starts to gel and you suddenly know what it is supposed to look like so now you take the lead and add the finishing touches.

Each piece turns into an adventure and the creation of each piece is exciting and fresh. It may sound vain for me to say this but when I look back again at certain artworks I have made I get that same excitement all over again.

One thing I really love about abstract work is that each piece is truly unique and while the style can be copied, they cannot be exactly duplicated. How do I know? Because I have tried to make the same thing twice and even I can’t do it with my own art. That is why I don’t mind posting my abstract art for sale online and letting it inspire others.

It’s a new style of art I am exploring by fusing my fractals with silhouette shapes and watercolor backgrounds to form unique artwork that is colorful decorative and exciting. Is Art Necessary?

Do you think art is necessary?

Many people think of art as an unnecessary luxury item but I want to convince you that art can be necessary to your life and business.

Did you know that you can use colorful abstract art to stimulate or calm emotions?

For instance, blue is calming and therefore can be used to soothe anxiety in places like a dentist office waiting room or a clinic exam room.

Red represents power, passion energy appetite and action. This is a great color to use in places like gyms to stimulate energy or restaurants to enhance appetites.

Orange is a youthful color and represents creativity and fun. A great color for community rooms in retirement homes to help the residents feel young again. Or in school art classrooms to add a fun and creative atmosphere.

Yellow is the color of hope and happiness. Use it in sick rooms, a hospital waiting room or anywhere you need to inspire hope.

Green is stress relieving, it also motivates and is a great color for offices and work spaces.

The simple act of hanging a colorful abstract piece of art in your space can affect the moods and reactions of the people you serve, work with or care for, so choose your art wisely and put it to work for you.

Abstract Realism

There was a question recently posed in an artists forum discussion. “Abstract or Realism?” and my gut response was, both! So I started to explore if there was such a thing as abstract realism, because I really feel like we shouldn’t have to choose one or the other.

As it turns out Abstract realism is an art style that has been around for centuries but only began to be recognized around the 1950’s and 60’s. It has however recently gained a lot of popularity with today’s artists and art lovers. It is a fusion of abstract techniques and realism that lends itself to the digital medium quite well and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I have even created some abstract realism pieces myself without even realizing that was what I was doing. But I think it adds an element of interest, excitement and individuality to a piece to have both abstract and realistic elements blended together.

So if someone asks you; “abstract or realism?” just say both!

Hello art lovers!

Hello and welcome to my new art blog. I am happy to have you and with this first post I would just like to introduce myself.

I am Shelli Fitzpatrick, an indie artist residing in the great state of Oklahoma in the USA. I’ve been creating art in one form or another for as long as I can remember. When I was young and people would ask me, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” my answer was always, “I want to be an artist.” Of course, as is common with so many young budding artists I was told that I should pick a real goal for my life if I didn’t want to starve and I let the idea take hold that I could never make a decent living as an artist so I didn’t pursue it as fervently as I should have. Then life happened, I got married, had children and went to work as a waitress to help raise them. But my love for creating art never went away and I would draw and paint on things to give away as gifts to my friends and family.

Later on after my girls were grown and on their own I was able to start dabbling in digital art and photography. Over the past 2 decades I have enjoyed learning new and interesting ways to create art with my digital tools and offering it for sale through several different platforms. I have sold my art and designs to people all over the world and each sale is just as thrilling as the first one was.

This blog is where I will share with you new art I have finished, new techniques I am trying and thoughts or ideas about life as an artist or just life in general.
