Assuming everything goes well, my Pretend Art School will reopen soon. You can find out more about that (as information becomes available) here: https://lifeintheblogbeams.wordpress.com
I founded the “school” in 2008 because I wanted to learn how to do art things – all the art things. Prior to that I’d drawn cartoons, painted abstracts to fill empty walls, and took pictures – one of which won a regional prize of $50 and press coverage – in a “Camera Shop” (the camera/photography store chain) photo contest. But I knew nothing. Everything I did was an experiment. A few gems turned up but most of what I did was pointless dreck. The terrifying realization that I KNEW NOTHING came after joining the new-ish art community on Redbubble. Other people knew what they were doing. Accidental successes didn’t make me happy anymore. I needed to learn.
So I rounded up books, guides, curricula, materials, and tools and set up my own one-student art school.
