Hilton Head Bicycle Station

Last year when I was in South Carolina (USA) I spent the afternoon on Hilton Head Island, a barrier island. Most of the land on the island was incorporated as a municipality in 1983.  It is known for its eco-friendly development and enjoys an unusual amount of tree cover relative to the amount of development.

There are several beach access points for the public.  Pulling into the parking lot of one of those access points I noticed not only a restroom building but also an Air and Repair Bicycle Station.

This station consisted of an air pump and a repair stand. Next to the repair stand was a manual tire pump complete with an air gauge.

The repair stand was designed with several maintenance tools secured to the stand by cables and cushioned support arms that will hold the bike at eye level while the bicyclist makes the repairs.  The stand also provides a QR code that you can scan with your phone. The scan will take you to a guide with several videos showing the proper procedures for bicycle repairs.

With 50 miles of hard-packed beaches and paved public pathways, an air and repair station for bicycles is most likely appreciated by the island’s cyclists.

Be sure and comment if you have seen or even used a similar bicycle repair stand while cycling and where that stand was located.
