The Lamp Cord
We traveled to Ohio during the Christmas holiday to visit family and friends and stayed in three different hotels on our trip.
The very first night in a hotel I took my camera and captured different objects around the room. I almost always do that when traveling and have used quite a few of those photographs on my site. Oddly, that first night is the only time I took any photographs of the hotel rooms we occupied.
I uploaded those photographs to my computer and then forgot about them until this week. I looked at everything I had photographed and then decided to use a picture of a lamp cord for this week’s challenge image.
It was a long cord and part of it was loosely coiled on the wooden desk top beside the lamp. The rest of the cord hung down one side of the desk. Photographs I took of that part of the cord will probably be used in the weeks to come.
Why would anyone take photographs of a lamp cord?
Maybe for an art challenge! That’s exactly why I did that.
The theme of the weekly challenge is The World Inside. That lamp cord was definitely inside along with the lamp and a landline telephone that I also photographed.
Ordinary objects. Everyday items in our homes and businesses. Items we may or may not notice even though they are in our line of sight daily.
The challenge is to look at, see and photograph those items in an artful way. I want the viewer to see curves and contrasts instead of only cords and shadows.
But what if no one who looks at my photograph sees art?
What if someone only sees a lamp cord on a desk top and wonders why in the world would anyone photograph a lamp cord?
Well, at least that person looked, saw and wondered!
Challenge completed either way. (Smile)
