AWOL

AWOL is an acronym that stands for Absent Without Leave.  Originally it was used by the military to describe a soldier that had either abandoned their post or never showed up for duty.

Eventually this acronym was adopted in civilian life to describe someone who was missing from a scheduled appearance, for example a person who never arrived at a party with no prior notification about their absence.

When I decided to write about my nonexistent entry last week this term came to mind.

However, was I really AWOL?

Doesn’t the term suggest that the “absent” person would be missed?

Did anyone miss the lack of my blog entry last week?

It’s okay if no one missed it.  Life is hectic.  Many people are competing  for your time and attention.  I get it.

Besides, posting every week is not done because anyone expects it or heavily suggested that it was something I was supposed to do.

Posting a blog entry once a week is one of the ways that I can journal about professional or personal activities. In addition, posting a blog entry each and every week is a matter of discipline.

None of us are perfect, sometimes life gets in the way of our regular routines and occasionally we need to take a break from those routines. That’s why I have made a few posts about playing hooky or being out of the office on a given week.

The truth is that I got very busy working on a personal photography project to complete a gift for some very special people and purposely procrastinated about writing and posting a blog entry last week.

Such is life sometimes.

Stay tuned.  No doubt there will be other weeks that Kathy from KeppenArt will be absent and out of the office, taking a break, playing hooky…

or just plain AWOL!
