The World Inside Challenge

I recently finished participating in a 52 week Art Challenge with the theme The World Outside. This challenge dictated that you create one new image a week using the same medium and theme the entire year. I had joined a challenge in 2022 that required a new image daily but we were permitted to use different mediums through out the year. Participants could post a photograph one day, a drawing or digital image the next, post an oil, acrylic or pastel painting and create abstracts from any medium if desired.

I chose photography as my medium for the previous 52 week challenge knowing that the theme would be difficult for me during the colder months since I usually stay inside as much as possible during winter. I was able to create 52 different photographs to complete that challenge.

The theme for a new challenge that started this week is The World Inside. I think this new 52 week challenge will be even more difficult because every single image must be photographed indoors which is a real challenge for me. Our apartment is rather dark and adding artificial light, whether from lamps or a camera flash, is an obstacle that I will need to overcome.

This lighting problem may be an obstacle but it presents an opportunity for me to experiment with different lighting situations for an entire year. I’m hoping that by the end of these 52 weeks I will be more proficient with taking photographs in low light.

The success I had with my first entry earlier this week was due mostly to processing the image with photography software and of course a treat for Tina as she doesn’t like to pose for me.

What challenges are you facing in the coming year?  Please be sure and share your new obstacles or opportunities in the comment section.

You can also follow along with my journey in the weeks to come and share if any of my images resonate with you emotionally or if they coincide with your new challenges.
