Staring me in the face again.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hanging on the doorknob ready to be hooked to a collar.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Ready to perform its duty of keeping a dog close to you as you walked.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>A tool to make control of the dog easier.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Black.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Dull.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Utilitarian.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>That leash hung on the door and haunted me. The dog long gone. The companionship. The snuggling up under the covers on a cold night. A tongue lovingly stroked along my arm. A wagging tail when I picked up that leash.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gone. All of those things gone.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Except for that leash hanging on the doorknob.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text-justify\">There it was.
