Stella opened the door. Immediately she was surrounded by a cold, thick fog. It was as though she was walking through a light, misty rain. By the time she reached her car her hair was wet and water was running down the back of her raincoat.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The cold dampness penetrated her body. The vertebrae in her spine were sending pain signals to her brain, protesting the cold with violent shivering.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She pushed down on the clutch and turned the key in the ignition. Nothing. The car did not start. No sound. No movement. Nothing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Three times she tried to start the car without success.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Painfully she got out of the car and slammed the door shut.<\/strong><\/p>\n
