Moving from one home to the next brings changes. You have the change of environment both inside your living quarters and outside as well. The first move in my life that I can remember happened when I was going into the 8th<\/sup> grade. My family moved from a neighborhood in a small village to a rural area a few miles from that village. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n I had grown up in a neighborhood with houses occupied by retired folks and families. A truly inter-generational place. Houses were close enough for our parents to step outside and call our name to come home if we were playing with the next door neighbor\u2019s children. Across a wooded area and on a hill was the school that I had been attending for the past seven years.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n My next home had two houses in sight but not necessarily shouting distance and no children in either of those houses. The high school that I would be attending was right up the road and within sight of this new location. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The school that I had attended and the one that I would be attending when the next school year started were both within sight of the houses I lived and would live in but they were very different buildings.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Just as the neighborhood and the schools were different so were the houses that I had and would live in. A small story and a half house to a full two story house meant more living area for our family. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n New surroundings inside and out brought many changes to my daily life. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Many moves occurred after that first one, both when I lived in my parents homes and after I moved out on my own. Several of those turned out to be very mentally traumatic events. I found myself giving up familiar surroundings, friends, jobs and homes several times. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Each move brought about challenges and opportunities. Sometimes I thrived in my new environment and sometimes I faltered, grieving what I had left behind. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Do you remember any significant location moves in your life?<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Was your first big move in your life during your childhood or as an adult?<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Did you seize new opportunities and thrive in your new environment or did you falter when grieving for the past?<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Please feel free to share your experiences with any big moves in your life and how you coped with those times. It is located on a busy state highway but in a very rural area. The multi-story, Art Deco structure was built in the 1930s and is still in use today.
