Thanksgiving 2024

Thanksgiving Day in the United States is celebrated the fourth Thursday of November each year.  This year, 2024, that date is November 28th.

Many of you will be traveling to spend Thanksgiving with family. That travel may take you across town or across the country.  For years we traveled every Thanksgiving or Christmas depending on how far away our home was from other family members.

After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, we didn’t travel every Thanksgiving though. We had planned a survivor’s get together for that first homeless holiday called Thanksgiving On The Slab but none of our friends or neighbors came because it poured down rain!

Three months after moving into our new home in 2009 my family flew in from two different states and celebrated Thanksgiving we us.

After several of our neighbors had rebuilt their homes we settled in to a new Thanksgiving tradition.  We would eat lunch on Thanksgiving Day with the neighbors who lived across the street from us and we would eat Thanksgiving supper with the neighbors who lived next to us.

One of the things I’m most thankful for is that time we lived in Mississippi.  I am extremely grateful for the beauty of nature that surrounded me there.  Celebrating Thanksgiving meals with those neighbors made me feel like I was surrounded by family again.

This year, as we have done for the past several years since leaving Mississippi, we will be traveling once again to spend time with family.

I hope that your Thanksgiving holiday is a special and safe weekend whether you are traveling or staying home.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
